Ingredients

Method

  1. Cut the red onions in half and peel them.
  2. Thinly slice the onions using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife.
  3. Prepare two sterilized 350 ml glass jars.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine 200 ml of grain vinegar, 3 tbsp of sugar, 2 tsp of salt, 1/3 tsp of cumin seeds, and 8 whole black peppercorns. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar and salt are fully dissolved.
  5. Pack half of the sliced red onions tightly into one of the jars. Pour the hot pickling liquid over the onions until they are fully submerged. Close the lid tightly.
  6. Repeat step 4 and 5 with the remaining ingredients to fill the second jar.
  7. Let the jars cool to room temperature, then store them in the refrigerator. The onions will turn a beautiful pink color after a few hours and are ready to eat.
